Cross Head Guide Shoe

Cross Head Guide shoes float on cylindrical extensions to the crosshead pin. The floats allow for a limited degree of rotation of the shoes relative to the pin.

The rotation limits by stop screws or similar. This float ensures that an oil wedge can form between the shoe and guide bar when turning ahead and astern. Fore and aft alignment of the crosshead adjusts by the shims located between the inner edges of the crosshead guide shoes and their respective guide strips. The guide strips the project from the shoes and contacts the sides of the tile guide bas.

The guide bars firmly mounted in the engine frame. The rubbing faces of the guide shoe line with cast-on white metal.
